President Mahama’s decision to contest the 2024 elections has given him some respite, Mr Benjamin Kofi Kwashi, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the South African National Democratic Congress and Chairman of the Group of Allied Consortiums, has revealed.
According to him, the rank and file of the NDC is very excited and encouraged by the former president’s decision to lead the party into the 2024 elections. “Nana Akufo-Addo is a man determined to carry out all the good programs and policies of the government,” he said.
“I and many in our party have always known President Mahama as our presumed leader. Yesterday’s official announcement energized the rank and file of the NDC party,” Mr Kwasi said.
Speaking to Nana Otu Darko on “Dwabre Mu” on CTV on Friday, March 3, 2023, he said President Mahama is the only person who has demonstrated nation building skills considering the economic crisis the country finds itself in. Protect our country.
When asked why President Mahama did not allow someone else to lead the party, Benjamin Kwashi argued that at this time we need an experienced hand to steer the ship of state. “The country needs someone tried and tested, someone we can trust to manage the affairs of Ghana at this critical moment,” he noted.
“He has come through the ranks – Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President and President. He is coming back to simply finish what he started. Some of his projects – E-Blocks, Saglemi housing project and many others–remain incomplete,” explained Mr. Benjamin Quashi.
Touching on the abolition of ex-gratia brought out by President Mahama, the chairman of Allied Consortiums argued that Ghanaians need to applaud President Mahama because he has promised to abolish it when he comes to power. This will save some money for the development of the country.
Elaborating further, the SA Council president said President Mahama would be able to abolish ex-gratia by amending the law or removing it from our laws. “I think we should be grateful for a visionary person; someone who comes to protect public money and should not be criticized unnecessarily,” he shared.
In the end, Mr. Benjamin Kwashi said President Mahama is a good leader who will carry through all the good policies and programs of the Nana Akufo-Addo government. “We will ensure that there is a proper review of the free senior school policy. It will never be scrapped and we will ensure value for money,” he concluded.
