Former President John Mahama has launched fresh attacks on the Electoral Commission of Ghana under the chairmanship of Jean Mensah, accusing the electoral body of not inspiring confidence.

According to the former president, who is lacing up his shoes to run for the presidency of the NDC for a third time, the Electoral Commission is making an attempt by the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“The hostility of the EC president and his fellow commissioners to a political party is legendary,” he asserted.

Interestingly, Mr. Mahama whose party (NDC) has boycotted IPAC meetings on several occasions said “Unfortunately, I don’t think this will happen when we have an EC that has blatantly rejected all efforts by the National Peace Council to organize a meeting. Commission and the two major political parties NDC and NPP.”

Mr. in Nigeria who is leading the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) to monitor the ongoing elections.

He pointed out that their preliminary engagements with presidential hopefuls indicate that they all have confidence in that country’s Electoral Commissioner but the same cannot be said for Ghana’s Electoral Commission.

“One thing that struck me in my pre-election campaign in Nigeria for the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) was the confidence expressed by all the candidates and parties in the Independent Electoral Commission. They all testify that INEC has listened to their concerns and taken care of them.

According to him, INEC’s openness and ability to bring all candidates on board is unfortunate but said “I cannot say that to my Electoral Commission (EC), which was once one of the best election management agencies in the world. .”

How I wish our own EC inspires the same level of trust in all its stakeholders.

Regrettably, I do not think this will happen when we have an EC that has brazenly rejected all efforts by the National Peace Council to organize a meeting between the Commission and the two major political parties, NDC and NPP.
