The party will never hand over power to the NDC, the former Minister of State for National Security told party supporters at Empreso on Saturday.
His comments raised eyebrows and provoked reactions, an honor that befits a ranking member of the defense committee. James Agalga slammed the Abetifi lawmaker’s statement.
In the letter signed by Hon., he described himself as Brian Acheampong “Danger to Ghana’s Democracy”
They believe Bryan’s statement is a wild call to provoke the imminent 2024 elections to retain power.

My attention has been drawn to a statement by the Abetifi MP and Minister of Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, Honorable Brian Acheampang, on April 8, 2023, captured in a video widely shared on social media. The gist of the statement is that the NPP as a political party will never hand over political power to the NDC and will do everything possible to retain power in 2024.
If one unpacks Brian Acheampang’s statement, two irresistible conclusions emerge; First, the NPP is hell-bent on destroying the will of the Ghanaian people to remain in power even if it loses the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, which is almost certain given its abysmal performance and pain, suffering in government. And the hardships they inflicted on Ghanaians.
Second, the NPP is ready to use violence to disrupt the upcoming elections if it becomes clear that it will lose.
Conclusions drawn from Brian Acheampang’s ominous statement are reflected in the overall conduct of the Akufo Addo government’s approach to issues bordering on the impartiality and credibility of the Electoral Commission moving into the 2024 elections. Dr. Peter Appihene, Hazia Salina Ahmed Tijani and Rev. Ofori Boateng’s President Akufo Addo is in line with the effusion of Brian Acheampong, a well-known operative of the NPP.
Again, the propensity of the NPP to use violence to disrupt elections is echoed in Brian Acheampong’s statement. The disruption of the Ayawaso West-Woogon by-election by NPP-related hoodlums is still fresh in our minds. We were not surprised that the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry pointed to Brian Acheampong in its findings and recommendations.
The NPP thugs who killed eight (8) Ghanaians during the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections infiltrated the security services through back door recruitment to manipulate and subvert the will of the electorate cannot be found in Tekiman North Constituency. will be forgotten.
In view of the above, Brian Acheampong’s disgraceful conduct poses a direct and grave threat to Ghana’s democracy and for this reason, he should be held accountable. Consequently, we urge the Inspector General of Police to arrest Brian Acheampong as a matter of urgency and prosecute him for engaging in conduct capable of undermining the peace and security of our country.
In addition to unequivocally condemning Brian Acheampong for his insecure statement, we want to send a clear message to him and people like him that the NDC will leave no stone unturned to protect Ghana’s current democratic dispensation in 1992. In the face of threat and adversity.
