Ashaiman Constituency Member of Parliament Ernest Dogbe said the number of his units arrested by the soldiers will exceed 72, Citinewsroom.com reported.
“I know men (military men) are coming from Michael camp. I called the chief there but his line is unreachable,” the lawmaker told 3news.com in an earlier interview.
It is not clear which military barracks the suspects were taken to and what kind of treatment they are being given.
On the morning of Tuesday, March 7, a group of soldiers attacked Ashaiman and brutalized some residents in the name of finding the killers of their colleague.
Videos of the incident have been circulating on social media, showing some of the victims left with bloody wounds and marks on their bodies.
“Soldiers are on the streets and preventing everyone from going out. I should have left for work right now, but I can’t step outside. A witness told Accra-based City News.
Another witness described how the angry-looking soldiers targeted the youths and vented their anger on them, leaving everyone terrified.
“We gathered that a soldier has been killed, a young man, I don’t know what caused his death, but some military men have come to the area and no one can go out. They knock on your door and once you come out you receive slaps.
“It’s very dangerous and everyone is afraid to go out… They’re using their shoes and hands to attack anyone they see. If you’re young, they’ll attack you, and if you’re a woman and dress a certain way, you’ll become a suspect to them. citinewsroom.com quotes the witness as saying.
A 22-year-old soldier with the band of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants in the early hours of Saturday morning at Sunyani in the Bono region.
