Apostle Samuel Amponsah Frimpong, the outgoing general secretary of Christ Apostolic Church International, has been elected as the new president of the church.
He scored 676 votes out of 1084 votes defeating his rival Reverend Augustine Bugai who had 308 votes.
In a statement to the Ghana News Agency, the newly elected president succeeded Apostle George Yeboah.
Apostle Samuel Addai-Kusi, the outgoing Director of Missions of the church who contested for the position of General Secretary, polled 633 votes against Rev. Augustine Ekuban who polled 343 votes with one rejected vote.
For the position of Director of Christian Education, Rev. Asumadu Kyeremeh won with 663 votes, while Rev. David Baine got 322 votes.
Apostle Prosper Agbagblo, the current director of evangelism, retained his seat with 908 votes, he got 72 votes with one spoiled ballot.
Apostle George Peter Derry won the position of Director of Missions with 632 votes, while Rev. Emmanuel Awotwe got 345 votes.
Rev. Samuel Kepeli Mensah has been elected as the new prophet director. He had 507 votes, Rev. Bafur Awuah got 471 votes.
Under Section 9 Section 2 of the 2019 Constitution of Christ Apostolic Church International, the qualified and accredited delegates for the exercise include all members of the Executive Council, full-time ministers, regional governing members, three delegates from each region and delegates. Selected Missionary Areas in Ghana and Foreign Missions.
Others are Heads of Division at General Headquarters, National Management of Better Women Ministry, Youth/Casa National Management, National Management of Men’s Ministry and two representatives of National Management of Children’s Ministry.
Heads or representatives of subsidiaries are allowed as observers.
Elections were overseen by the Church’s Election Commission.
Christ Apostolic Church International, founded by Apostle Peter Newman Anim, is said to be the father of Pentecostalism in Ghana, the first and mother of Pentecostal churches in the then Gold Coast, now Ghana, from which emerged the Church of Pentecost, Apostolic Church Ghana, Ghana Apostolic, Assemblies of God and many others.
The Church and the nation await the induction, swearing in and handing over ceremonies of the elected officials and their plans for the coming years.
The 66th Ministerial and General Council meeting which saw the election of the new executive took place from Monday, February 20 to Thursday, February 23 at the National Theater in Accra.
