SA Adedesin, Legal Officer, State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, filed a suit at the Magistrate Court in Lagos to support Flutterwave’s claims, to investigate accounts with stolen funds in various financial institutions in Nigeria. A proposal has been submitted to freeze the accounts of 27 financial institutions in Nigeria, including Access Bank, Cuda, Zenith Bank, and Opay.
As of press time, it was unclear who hacked Flutterwave or how the hackers got past the company’s security. Questions about what this means for Unicorn customers remain unanswered. Flutterwave did not respond to our queries.
Users of FlutterWave have reported that some commercial banks have allowed money to be transferred to other accounts, widening the money trail. Some Twitter users have confirmed that their accounts have been frozen in connection with the hack.
Flutterwave is a digital payment infrastructure company that enables banks and businesses across Africa to accept and make payments. It has raised more than $400 million and has more than 290,000 traders using its platform.
