These errors can ruin all your efforts to look good despite investing time and money.
The truth is dressing how you intend. We all say ‘never judge a book by its cover’ but looks matter a lot.
Appearance contributes to how people perceive you against their will. So make sure your appearance is consistent with your self-image and how you want people to interact with you.
This means taking care of the details and correcting flaws that ruin your look, especially outside of your clothes.
Here are some mistakes you should avoid to make yourself look cheap.
Wrinkled cloth
Wrinkled clothes scream ‘rolled out of bed’ and I don’t have a flat iron. Crumpled clothes can be seen from a mile away and make you look cheap no matter how expensive the clothes or labels are.
Keeping up with trends
The problem with trendy clothes is that people know how long ago you bought them. On the other hand, following the trend is expensive and risky. So if you’re not ready to keep up with trends, get clothes that don’t lose relevance with time.
Very bold colors
If you have trouble matching colors, try mixing different articles of different shades of one color. Otherwise, bright colors should be matched with neutral colors or muted colors. Sometimes wearing bold colors may not necessarily work, always consider the occasion, place and time for such bold statements.
You run the risk of coming across as obnoxious and trying too hard to impress or lacking fashion sense.
Exposing too much skin
According to renowned stylists, you should show off only one body part in each outfit. If you are showing skin on your upper body, your legs should be covered. If you want to show off your legs, make sure your upper body is covered.
Nail polish without manicure/pedicure
If you don’t have time for a manicure, skip the polish. It looks messy and draws more attention to your hands. Opt for a colorless polish when you’re running late for a manicure or pedicure.
Follow the rule: hygiene over decorum.
Dirty shoes
Dirty, scratched, torn, faded and discolored shoes always come across as untidy and cheap. Shoes are important outfit accessories though. Just as a good pair of kickers can draw attention and compliments, a bad pair of shoes can instantly undermine your outfit and look.
NB: Invest in good quality shoes, outfit shines when your feet shine, take note.
