America finally pushed the doomsday clock 90 seconds to midnight

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which many readers will remember from the Cold War days, has announced that the Doomsday Clock will now be 90 seconds from midnight.

For as long as I can remember, “5 Minutes to Midnight” has been a euphemism for how close the world is to being destroyed by nuclear winter. That was three and a half minutes ago.

The bulletin’s update comes thanks to the war over Ukraine, where, increasingly, the prospect of Russia and NATO coming into direct conflict is more realistic than a Tom Clancy novel. 90 seconds is the closest the world gets to midnight.

Think that. Closer than all the years of the Cold War, including the Cuban Missile Crisis.

America is lost and neoconservatism has pushed us to the brink.

America’s insistence that the same people who brought us the Iraq War and 20 years of Afghanistan must defend Ukraine’s borders halfway around the world (completely, completely, completely ignoring our own) has brought us to a knife’s edge.

What is America’s interest in risking a global thermonuclear war with what has been described as the most corrupt nation on earth until February 2022?

From the less-sophisticated, you regurgitate the same “domino theory” that killed 58,000 American children and millions of Vietnamese. You see, if Ukraine falls, Putin will continue to march through Poland and eventually into Manhattan proper.

This kind of jingoism comes from a lack of understanding of Russia’s intentions, which are at least partly a response to Ukrainian bombs and largely a response to NATO’s relentless march into Russian-populated Donbas. Russian border (Yes, you really are do Understand your enemy’s desires and motivations. You are no smarter than Sun Tzu or Clausewitz.)

Though completely needless to say, it bears repeating because America Lost either doesn’t understand it or resents that it’s true: If the Warsaw Pact has covered South America for the past 50 years and is on the verge of adding Mexico, you can bet your ass Uncle Sam is ready to fight.

From the more sophisticated, you get all kinds of — maybe even worse — gobbledegook about “international order” and “rules-based order” and other pablum that tries to portray the US government as some kind of reasonable, justice-based one. International judges.

Yes, the same government that attacked Vietnam for no reason, attacked Iraq for no reason, overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran, overthrew the government of Libya for no reason, and Currently engaged in an illegal war in Syria.

The truth is, America has no national security interest in who controls Donbass or Crimea. And even if we did, it wouldn’t be worth the end of all life on Earth.

(Seriously, do these people know how willing Russia is to take a last stand? They just made a real, real-life doomsday machine. Dr. Strangelove.)

The worst part is that the minority of rational, well-meaning Republicans are even more useless and clueless than the Russia-gate Democrats when someone says Odessa isn’t worth destroying.

This country has real, concrete problems to deal with. Look no further than the ongoing mass layoffs, the unprecedented assault on the southern border, the $31 Trillion In debt, decades-high inflation, etc.

Seriously, in the last three months, the Border Patrol has caught 38 – 38 luckily! – Known terrorists in open borders. How many ran away? And are you worried about a country 6,000 miles away?

As the great Dr. Paul pointed out, the days of neoconservatism must end. Otherwise it is a self-evidently poor and disastrously absurd theory, then We can’t afford that either.

America can do Avoid the fate of Rome. But that includes growing up. It means paying off our debt, taking care of our own country and uplifting our own people.

It doesn’t mean bombing Third World countries into dust or pretending the world lies on a dot most Americans can’t even pinpoint on a map.

congratulations 32 years after the fall of the Soviet Union you elected the leaders who pushed us to the brink of the Cold War.

Now, I fully understand that some reading this will disagree with me. Some even violently. But fear not: approx Each American politicians, most European politicians and almost all Ukraine-flag-waving democrats agree with you.
