Reports emanating from the seat of government indicate that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will reshuffle his cabinet in the coming days.
The reshuffle is expected to turn things around for the government as it takes giant steps to win the 2024 presidential elections after several calls for the president to juggle his ministers and possibly bring others on board.
Although the list is yet to be finalised, Deep Throat sources told DGN Online that Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempe will either take over from Alan Kwadwo Kyrematen as Minister of Trade and Industry or transfer to the Ministry of Health to take over from Kwaku Agyeman Manu. Who looks tired.
Speculations are rife that the Energy Ministry could be headed by Kobina Tahir Hammond, Adansi-Asokwa’s Member of Parliament (MP) who advised the position early in the Akufo-Addo administration before Boki Agyarko was torpedoed.
Agyarko himself could not survive the minister’s manipulations as he was pushed aside by the storm that raged over the defeat of Ameri Power.
Brian Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, and former Minister of State for National Security, who has returned to government as he takes charge of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has resigned as immediate past minister, Dr. to further his presidential ambitions.
His presidential campaign is struggling to gain traction, even in his Quadaso backyard.
Many people, including more than 90 NPP lawmakers, are expecting the president to name a new finance minister to replace Ken Ofori-Atta, sources said, adding that the president would only make the change at the deputy level, moving the so-called Mohammed Amin Adam from the energy ministry to the finance ministry as minister of state.
It is unclear whether the president will free Ken Ofori-Atta to take leave from government before the entire International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal is concluded, as the president is impressed with the record time it took to negotiate an IMF bailout.
Akupem South MP, Ose-Bonsu Amoh, currently Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, is likely to be promoted to Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government with a mandate to look into the implementation of property rates.
He was the Deputy Sports Minister in the Kufoor administration.
Reports say some ministries may be abolished and merged with some staff redeployed to parent ministries.
Meanwhile, some party leaders are said to be lobbying hard in the corridors of power over who should get the job and who should be shown the exit as the party takes to announce the guidelines for the parliamentary and presidential primaries.
