Anti-MAGA Rep. Dan Crenshaw failed to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the new Republican Congress, losing to House Freedom Caucus member Mark Green.
The disappointing news for Crenshaw comes after he repeatedly railed against GOP lawmakers who refused to endorse Kevin McCarthy for speaker last week, referring to them as “clowns” and “terrorists.”
Green, unlike his opponent, vowed to use his new key role on the committee to focus on the crisis on the southern border.
“For our national security and homeland security, we must secure our border,” Green said in a statement.
βWe have no choice. We empower our brave CBP agents to do their jobs and hold President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the crisis they created.
For the sake of our national security and homeland security, ending the border crisis created by President Biden is our top priority. /1

“I’m grateful for his friendship and leadership,” Green said. “I look forward to working with a fellow veteran who understands our national security challenges to secure our homeland.”
Dan Crenshaw lost the race to chair the Homeland Security Committee to Mark Green of the House Freedom Caucus.
This is an American victory.
Crenshaw needs to be rejected from all positions of leadership.

Crenshaw’s defeat “could be a sign of newly expanded conservative influence over the House GOP,” the Daily Mail reported.
Both Green and Crenshaw backed McCarthy’s bid for the speaker’s gavel in each vote last week.
But McCarthy had to make some concessions to hardline conservatives who opposed his choice. Accordingly, he promised to increase the representation of the Freedom Caucus in higher committees.
Jim Jordan (R-OH) chairs the full House Judiciary Committee and the potential Select Subcommittee on Federal Government Weapons.
I am proud of my colleagues @Jim_Jordan Who leads a committee to pursue government departments armed against the American people.
I also congratulate my best friend @RepMarkGreen For winning House Homeland Security Chairman. πΊπΈ@HouseGOP

Crenshaw apologized for calling colleagues ‘terrorists’
During the flurry of speaker votes last week, Dan Crenshaw made the ill-advised move to compare America First lawmakers standing against McCarthy to “terrorists.”
βWe will not let the terrorists win. That’s basically what’s happening,” he said during a radio broadcast.
They are certainly not terrorists, but they are still winning.

Crenshaw then doubled down, denouncing the group as “these fucking people” and declaring that “they’re just clowns.”
He insisted the original comment was just a “figure of speech” and urged people to “snap out of it”.
Untie your pearls. It is a figure of speech. You can’t insult, slander, and hold everyone hostage without any recourse – and don’t expect me to hit back.

Once McCarthy got the gavel, Crenshaw offered a feeble apology.
“Look, things get heated, and things get said,” he told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “I don’t want them to think I believe they’re terrorists. It’s obviously a turn of phrase you use in blunt talk.
Despite the apology, Crenshaw has now lost his chance to chair the Homeland Security Committee.
It seems they just have to ‘get over it’.
