Janelle Storey, 35, told BuzzFeed News she was on a bar crawl when she saw a crowd on the street. By 8:30 p.m., Story, an American who lives in Seoul, said the area was already full of people. “Even getting out of the subway station was intimidating,” he said via Twitter messages early Sunday. “It took 20 minutes to exit the station.”
As she walked from bar to bar near the Hamilton Hotel, she said the crowd was packed tightly together, but nothing seemed dangerous at the time.
“Even though I was uncomfortable, no one was ‘out of control,'” he said. “We were all moving slowly and methodically.”
But around 10:30 p.m., Storey said he began to feel increasingly panicked by the situation as he captured footage of the scene, which he posted to Twitter.
