The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party has called on the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest and prosecute Abetifi Member of Parliament and Minister of Food and Agriculture, Brian Acheampong, for comments it described as reckless and seditious.
“We urge the Ghana Police Service to act with dispatch on this matter” said in a statement signed by his Secretary General Fifi Fiawi Kweti.
“In a viral video, Vice President Alhaji Mahmudu Bawumia addressed the same at the culminating rally of the health walk organized by the New Patriotic Party in Kwahu, Eastern Region on Saturday, April 8, 2023. The document assured his party supporters of the resolution of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government to hold power no matter what. ,” He added..
Addressing party supporters at Empreso on Saturday, Mr Acheampang said the ruling New Patriotic Party will never hand over power to the opposition NDC in 2025.
But the NDC in a statement signed by its secretary general, Fifi Kweti, lashed out at the MPs and accused the NPP of trying to subvert the will of the people in 2024.
“In continuation of the above evil agenda, every independent state institution has been systematically bastardized under this Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government. The once venerable Election Commission has recently seen a fresh downturn after hard-line New Patriotic Party cadres were appointed to the most sensitive positions in the commission. This move by President Akufo-Addo has alarmed many observers and has served to confirm that the ultimate agenda of the NPP is to use every desperate scheme to hold on to power at any cost.
“The NDC, which handed over power to the NPP between 2001 and 2017 when the people of Ghana voted for the NPP, wants to assure Ghanaians that we will do whatever it takes to protect the democratic will and sovereignty of the Ghanaian people. We are ready to do whatever it takes to preserve our resolve for the good people of Ghana and the democratic will of the people. We want to assure you that – even at the risk of our lives – the supreme will of the electorate of Ghana will be revealed on December 7, 2024.
