The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gambhi, says no one in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) can deny the will of the people of Ghana in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Giamfi was reacting to Food and Agriculture Minister Brian Acheampong’s comment that the NPP will do anything in its way to retain power in the 2024 elections.
Addressing NPP supporters in Empreso in the Eastern region after a health walk on Saturday morning (April 8) as part of activities to mark this year’s Kwahu Easter, Acheampang, who is also the NPP MP for Abetifi, said that NPP will never happen. Power will be handed over to the NDC.
The NPP will do whatever it takes to retain power and “we have men,” he said.
He said the NPP will do whatever it takes to curb any kind of bad behavior the NDC is planning to use to win the 2024 elections.
However, responding to Mr. Acheampang’s comment, an NDC Communications official said “sovereignty resides in the people and not in a person who has served as an Airman Basic (the lowest rank below Airman in the United States Air Force) for years.”
For him, the former Deputy Minister of National Security has no place to threaten any NDC member and the NDC will be well prepared for the 2024 elections.
“In 2024 the majority of Ghanaian voters will definitely vote for change and no one can undermine their will,” he expressed hope.
Mr. Gambhi said “If Brian and his ilk are motivated by getting away with the evil they committed during the Ayawaso West Wugon by-election and 2020 elections, they are sorely mistaken, because it will not be business as usual. Notice is hereby served.”
He, therefore, asked supporters of the NDC to “ignore the ridiculous tactics of Brian Acheampang”.
