Former Attorney General Bill Barr is calling on President Biden to use military action to crack down on drug cartels in Mexico.
Barr, in a Wall Street Journal op-ed published late last week, compared Mexican drug cartels to ISIS and advised the United States military to take on them within Mexico’s borders.
“These narco-terrorist groups are more like ISIS than the American mafia,” he wrote. “Merely naming cartels as terrorist groups does nothing by itself. The real question is whether we are willing to go after them as a terrorist group.
Barr argued in favor of a joint resolution introduced by Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) and Michael Waltz (R-FL) that would create an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), which he says would give the president “the authority to use.” US military against these cartels in Mexico.
And, he said, the United States has the right to take military action whether Mexico participates or not.
“Under international law, a government has a duty to ensure that illegal groups do not use its territory to conduct poaching against its neighbours,” Barr said.
“If the government is unwilling or unable to do so, the affected country has the right to take direct action to eliminate the threat, with or without the approval of the host country.”
Yes… let’s do it! For once, I agree with Barr.

Bill Barr: Bomb the drug cartels in Mexico
Bill Barr’s argument for supporting military action against drug cartels in Mexico is particularly poignant, given that former President Donald Trump has inquired on at least two occasions about covertly bombing such illegal cartel drug labs and has been widely derided for the idea.
Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, in his autobiography A sacred oathTrump pointed out that during his first term he focused intensely on the constant flow of narcotics across the southern border from drug cartels.
“They don’t have control over their own country,” Trump noted, according to Esper’s account.
Esper said Trump made it clear “we can shoot some Patriot missiles and quietly take out the labs.” “No one will know it’s us.”
That’s why Barr is calling now.
“We cannot accept a failed narco-state at our borders,” Barr said, “providing sanctuary to narco-terrorist groups that prey on the American people.”

MAGA representatives Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz agree
Representative Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) expressed support for Bill Barr’s proposal for military intervention against Mexican drug cartels.
“We must strategically strike and eliminate the Mexican cartels, not the Mexican government or their people, but the Mexican cartels that control them all,” he tweeted. “They are international terrorists and criminals killing Americans every day with drugs and crime!”
“Our military is capable and must take them out quickly,” Green added. “Make an example of these monsters.”
Our army should be stationed on our southern border.
We must strategically strike and eliminate the Mexican cartels, not the Mexican government or their people, but the Mexican cartels that control them all.

Unsurprisingly, World War III advocate Adam Kinzinger opposed Greene’s argument, saying that he “didn’t think of anything” that such military action would require “intel” and “armies on the ground.”
No Strategy Kinzinger is not willing to continue his support for Ukraine, but cannot stomach the idea of drawing in the military to defend America.
And you won’t mind if it involves Ukraine.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) called on the United States in September to begin bombing the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico.
“Bomb Sinaloa,” he tweeted. “Not kidding.”

“Tens of thousands of Americans in every community have been poisoned over and over again by fentanyl,” Gaetz said.
“Yet we clutch our pearls at the suggestion that after 20 years of war in the Middle East, we might think about dropping some Tomahawk missiles in the Sinaloa mountains.”
