Addressing members of the diplomatic corps at Peduse Lodge on Tuesday, the President expressed confidence that with the cooperation received from the Paris Club, the IMF agreement would finally be concluded by the end of March.
“Just as we managed to reach a staff-level agreement with the Fund in record time in December last year, we are confident of systematically fulfilling the terms, including cooperation, including the difficult but ultimately very successful process of the Domestic Debt Exchange Program. Received by members of the Paris Club and the People’s Republic of China, it was sent to Accra by China’s Exim Bank over the weekend. Sent a delegation to meet the officials of the Ministry of Finance, we will be able to go to the board of the fund to finalize the agreement by the end of March,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo added “This will set the stage for a strong recovery of Ghana’s economy. Needless to say, we hope all friends of Ghana will weigh in with words of support on the fund.
Ghana has already reached a staff level agreement (SLA) with the IMF but is yet to get board approval.
