It is rotating in all regions of the country and it is the turn of Volta Region to host this year’s edition.
The annual event aims to commemorate the efforts made by Ghana’s forefathers to gain independence from colonial rulers several decades ago. But Barker-Wormauer says it is a perfect platform to echo the anger and suffering of Ghanaians under the new Patriotic Party government led by Akufo-Addo.

“On this Independence Day your charge is to express, on behalf of all of us, our national outrage at a man who represents everything that Nkrumah stands for.” He wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
Last year, both the President and his Vice President, Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, were at various times booed by Ghanaians at events that characterized the current administration for economic crisis, maladministration and corruption among other issues. One such incident occurred in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region, the world bank of the ruling NPP, where residents shamed the president.
