Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is poised to sign a pair of bills that recently passed the state Senate that would restore the voting rights of ex-offenders and give illegal immigrants the ability to obtain driver’s licenses.
The first is legislation known as the Restore the Vote bill, which passed the Senate last week and the House version was enacted earlier this month.
Both chambers are controlled by Democrats. CNN reports that Walz is “expected to sign the legislation” this week.
Minnesota joins 22 other states in restoring voting rights to convicted felons the moment they leave prison — regardless of what happens during their parole. The other three allow convicts to vote during Arrested.
CNN reports that Republican senators have sought to introduce amendments that would “prevent people in prison who have been convicted of more violent crimes, including child rape, from having their voting rights restored under the bill.”
Democratic state Senate President Bobby Joe Champion, according to that report, dismissed concerns of that nature because “anyone who re-offends will eventually go to prison.”
Voting is the core of our democracy. When I signed Restore #VoteMN As a law, Minnesota will advance the fight to protect voting rights for all by restoring this inalienable right to thousands of Minnesotans. https://t.co/RZQlMkdcyW

Next up is Minnesota’s Democrat Governor Tim Walz – a driver’s licenses for all bill that would allow illegal immigrants in the state to apply for driver’s licenses.
The bill calls for removing a rule implemented by former Gov. Tim Pawlenty that requires driver’s license applicants to show proof of legal residency in the United States, such as a Social Security number.
The text of the statute states that applicants “are not required to demonstrate United States citizenship or lawful presence in the United States.”
Republican Minnesota state Sen. Glenn Gruenhagen argued that the legislation could lead to bigger problems.
“Does your bill prevent that terrorist from coming to Minnesota, getting a driver’s license and being on an airline and committing a terrorist act?” he asked.
Republicans again tried to amend the bill by adding “not for flying” or “not for voting” text, with the belief that access to the permit would lead to more sinister actions.

A friend to criminals
It’s no surprise that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is a friend to criminals and illegal immigrants.
The same man who waited for National Guard help from former President Donald Trump during the George Floyd riots as widespread fires and looting continued in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
He then turned around and requested in a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that the feds declare Minnesota a “major disaster” zone, saying the events were the second most devastating civil unrest in American history.
The Trump administration rejected the request and the $16 million federal bailout.
Great news! @realDonaldTrump Minnesota’s disaster request to repair half a billion dollars in damage caused by the riots has been denied. The governors and mayors who ordered the police to stand by and watch their cities burn should not receive a dime in taxpayer assistance! https://t.co/8WAgm7AFa7

Walz acknowledged that more than 1,500 buildings were damaged by rioters in the wake of Floyd’s death, causing $500 million in damages.
