He stated this when he led members of the National Planning Committee to the area for an event on Friday to inform traditional authorities about the development.
Mr. Kami first called on the Asogli Traditional Council and then led by the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Devine Bosson and other stakeholders in the area.
“The President has sent us to inform you of his decision to honor the people of the Volta by getting the region to host the 66th anniversary of Ghana’s independence. Independence Square alone cannot sustain this important celebration of Ghana’s independence. This year he has decided that it is the turn of the Volta Region to be Ghana’s oxygen city.
He said the essence of the meeting was to get the support of local stakeholders especially traditional authorities on the celebration and their input was crucial to ensure the event. “A complete display of national character.”
Mr. Comey also touted the benefits to the local economy.
Asogli state military commander, Togbe Adji Lakle Hausu XII said “It is an honor to inform about this event in Volta and that it will happen in our land.”
“The celebration is sure to be a historic event bringing the glory of independence to the region.” He said
The Chairman of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo, said the region would wholeheartedly support making the celebration the best it could be.
“I can assure you that the Volta Region has a lot to offer in terms of showing commitment to this great mother Ghana and we will put our all into making this celebration the best it can be.”
The delegation to the House of Chiefs was led by Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, and the team traveled to the new Ho Sports Stadium to access the progress of the work.
The 5,000 capacity facility, which was progressing at a slow pace when the team visited, was being hastily completed.
The Director of Operations in the Office of the President after inspecting the site charged stakeholders to market the area to take advantage of the event.
