According to Security Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugu, new vehicles are necessary for the president and vice president to ease road traffic. The allocation comes amid a proposed 40% cut on development in the 2023/24 financial year.
“There is a need to review the deduction and consider the fact that the item was completely reduced when principals were given aged vehicles,” Muhwezi said while presenting the budget to the committee chaired by Adjumani Woman MP Jeska Ababiku.
In addition to the vehicle upgrades, State House has allocated Sh21.722 billion for the renovation of Entebbe State House, repair and maintenance of Nakasero State Lodge and 23 other highland state lodges. The allocation also includes procurement of five support vehicles, annual maintenance of the presidential jet and helicopter, special and security equipment, ICT equipment and official and residential furniture.
Despite the allocation, the desired budget of the State House for the next financial year 2023/2024 is Sh419.938 billion, leaving a funding gap of Sh35.418 billion. A significant portion of the desired budget, Sh13.468 billion, is allocated for procurement of security equipment.
When asked that Observer Muhwezi said how failure to buy new vehicles for the President and Vice President would be dangerous for the country, adding that although the President and Vice President can move on foot, it is important to have vehicles for their timely arrival to the places of need. and efficient collection of information.
