The object that was shot down over Alaska on Friday entered US airspace before it was detected, a senior US official told Fox News.
“The US military found the object Thursday night “just off the north coast of Alaska,” the official told Fox News.

“The president was fully involved in this decision. He ordered it…we’re calling it material because that’s the best description we have right now. We don’t know who owns it,” Kirby said.
Kirby told reporters that the ‘thing’ did not contain humans.
“Knowledge about the balloon and the track came to our attention yesterday evening,” said Kirby.
Debris is recovered from the object as it crashed onto frozen waters near the Arctic Ocean.
Kirby said there is a reasonable threat to civilian aviation.
A reporter asked Kirby on Friday why the Chinese spy balloon and other ‘object’ were not detected until they entered US airspace.
“Isn’t it a concern that both were detected while these objects were already flying over US airspace? Should they have been detected before they entered the US?” asked the reporter.
Kirby insisted, “We’re…going to learn a lot about how to better detect these things.”

Pentagon spokesman Brig. General Patrick Ryder revealed more details about the military object that was shot down over Alaska.
The plane that picked up the object was an F-22 flying out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, he said.
A fighter jet used an AIM-9X to shoot down the object.
