An online petition is calling for government help to salvage the situation.
“Others had to stay longer because they couldn’t get the money to go back to their country. Some were sued by their landlords for refusing to pay rent.” was mentioned in the petition.
According to some students, it has a lot of difficulties and struggles.
“Only 3 or 4 months stipend was paid to those who graduated in December last year.”
“I came here in September last year. No stipend paid,”
Meanwhile, reacting to the matter, the Scholarship Secretariat urged the students to be firm and avoid indulging in any illegal act that would embarrass the country.
“As we convene to consider strategies, we urge our scholars globally to desist from any wrongdoings that may embarrass the Government of Ghana.
“Indeed, it is time to demonstrate the true character of resilience as a Ghanaian and even in the face of these challenges we advise scholars to remain steadfast to the terms and conditions of the scholarship award”
“Timetables for other countries will be communicated to you in due course through various student forums and students who wish to join via Zoom will need to register with their student leaders”
The secretariat promised to meet the students through it “Time with the Registrar” series to discuss the procedure for settling dues and scholarship commitments.
