There are times when you wonder ‘how does sex feel after delivery’, ‘when is it safe to have sex after delivery?’, ‘can sex after delivery lead to infection’ or ‘why is my libido low after pregnancy’. But take a breath.
Sexuality after birth is not an alien concept. All you have to do is dive in with some caution:
Taking a warm bath or using lubricants can help relieve pain and vaginal dryness experienced during intercourse.
Developing intimacy after childbirth can strengthen the bond between couples. Intimacy is not just about sex. Try holding hands, hugging, date lunch or dinner and massage sessions. These are very useful to keep the bond alive.
Communicating about the desire to resume sex and pleasurable experiences goes a long way in nurturing the relationship.
When you go for your six-week postpartum check-up with your doctor, you can discuss contraceptive options, and once you’re sure they’ve healed, you can resume sex.
