Overview of GCC:
The Goodman Community Center (GCC) serves our entire community, welcoming individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Objective of Role:
- The Volunteer Manager position develops and supports the Goodman Community Center’s Volunteer Program. This includes recruiting, engaging, and retaining a diverse volunteer pool, program management and leadership, staff supervision, and strategic planning. The Volunteer Manager ensures that Goodman’s Volunteer Program meets the center’s mission and values.
Requirements:
Program Development:
- Develop and implement the Center’s volunteer strategy with the Goodman Community Center’s Strategic Plan.
- Develop and implement recruitment, onboarding, and engagement strategies based on department/program needs to build a strong, stable, diverse volunteer force.
- Collaborating with the Mission & Impact team, developing measurements for volunteer program evaluation, and monitoring progress, including soliciting volunteer feedback.
- Create and implement volunteer policies and standard operating procedures.
Engagement and Retention:
- Develop and communicate volunteer job descriptions and opportunities that support the needs of GCC programs and services.
- Manage the volunteer webpage as a recruitment, scheduling, and data collection portal.
- Manage comprehensive orientation and onboarding process and ongoing education for volunteers.
- Develop and maintain formal and informal volunteer communications, including a monthly newsletter, recognition programs, and activities.
- Work with the Development Team to create opportunities for donors and potential donors, including corporate groups, to engage with the center through volunteerism.
- Develop and foster relationships with community partners to support volunteer recruitment strategies and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the volunteer base.
Management and Leadership:
- Orient new GCC staff to the volunteer process and procedures.
- Work with the Program Managers and HR Director to offer opportunities and create volunteer training plans.
- Train staff in effective volunteer management strategies and support staff leadership in areas of volunteer engagement.
- Support management of the volunteer budget and ensure appropriate and allowable expenditures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree and or equivalent, relevant, preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years administrative experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of volunteer management experience.
- High level of interpersonal skills- ability to develop and maintain relationships and work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds and interests.
- Quick learner with strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite and web-based databases.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Dependability and a high work ethic.
- Detailed-oriented, strong organization and planning skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions/choices and problem-solve independently.
- Budget management experience.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to support volunteer needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work with volunteers and program participants in person
- Intermittent physical activity, including bending, reaching, and prolonged periods of sitting.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Extended sitting and use of computers.
- Data entry using a standard keyboard.
PREFERENCES
- Experience with volunteer management software.
- Multi-lingual.
- Related Bachelor’s Degree or education.
- Experience working in a nonprofit setting.
- Experience cultivating a diverse volunteer pool.
