GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Maintain clean environment for residents and staff. Perform routine cleaning of resident rooms, halls, offices, and other assigned areas. Follow policies and procedures of department with regard to duties. Reports to department supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Cleans resident rooms and other assigned areas.
  2. Performs daily tasks in accordance with infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures.
  3. Respects confidentiality and resident's rights.
  4. Respects dress code according to department policies.
  5. Respects and shows kindness to all residents.
  6. Assures that floors are free of hazardous debris.
  7. Practices good body mechanics in regards to lifting.
  8. Protects and maintains all work areas in accordance with facility safety policies.
  9. Perform tasks such as wash over-the-bed lights, pictures and objects on walls, wall washing, baseboards, etc. as assigned.
  10. Sorts soiled laundry according to facility policy and procedures.
  11. Loads and unloads washers and dryers.
  12. Sorts, folds, stack clean linen.
  13. Washes, dries, sorts and delivers residents personal laundry.
  14. Possesses knowledge of equipment and procedures for washing linens of various degrees of soil.
  15. Understands the functions of various soaps, bleaches, softeners, and other chemicals used in washing and rinsing.
  16. Distinguishes between cotton and synthetic fibers.
  17. Performs daily tasks in accordance with infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures.
  18. Respects confidentiality and resident's rights.
  19. Respects and shows kindness to residents.
  20. Assures that floors are free of hazardous debris
  21. Practices good body mechanics in regards to lifting.
  22. Protects and maintains work areas in accordance with facility safety policies.
  23. Follows dress code according to department policy.
  24. Maintains work area in clean and orderly manner.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Occasionally orients new employees.
  2. Performs periodic cleaning tasks as directed by department supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
  1. Must have initiative and judgment to do assigned tasks.
  2. Must be able to organize work.
  3. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
  4. Must have abilities to evaluate work and set priorities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :
  1. Applicant should be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Ability to read, speak, write, and follow oral and written directions in English.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:
  1. Uses brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners and any other equipment assigned
  2. Floor Buffer
  3. Large walk behind sweeper
  4. Role iron
  5. Carpet machines

SPECIFICATIONS - MENTAL/PHYSICAL:
  1. Stands and walks throughout the day on hard surfaces.
  2. Turns, bends, kneels, pushes housekeeping cart many times daily.
  3. Pushes beds weighing up to 300 lbs. on a daily basis.
  4. Climbs stepladder on a daily basis.
  5. Lifts 50-75 lbs. on a daily basis.
  6. Works indoors in a lighted, ventilated, and heated building.
  7. Tolerates odors coming from residents and soiled linen on a daily basis.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS:
  1. Maintains good relations with residents and their families.
  2. Communicates clearly and maintains good relationships with staff.

LEARNING PERIOD REQUIRED:
  1. Ninety day probationary period required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
