Role Description For 150 years, the San Francisco SPCA has been a cherished San Francisco institution, known for compassion, excellence and innovation. We are seeking a mission-driven Copywriter to shape and maintain the SF SPCA's voice across all marketing channels. In this role, you will develop high-quality, engaging copy across various platforms.
We're looking for someone who can switch between various writing styles and formats, from long form blog posts and articles to clever social media content to creative taglines and copy for out-of-home marketing (i.e. billboards, bus ads) - and more! You will be responsible for crafting on-brand messaging that resonates with a wide range of audiences while driving engagement and supporting business objectives.
The ideal candidate is a thoughtful storyteller and versatile writer with a keen understanding of what motivates different audiences. We're looking for someone with a strong grasp of SEO and digital marketing trends to ensure the copy is always as effective as possible. We believe a strong, well-connected team makes all the difference. This role is based in our San Francisco office in a hybrid capacity, with a minimum of two days in the office each week.
Core Responsibilities - Creates persuasive and effective copy that aligns with brand messaging and business objectives across various types of communication (digital, print, video, etc.).
- Writes copy and edits publications such as blogs, newsletters and resources, serving as a contact for both internal and external stakeholders for publications.
- Stays current on digital marketing trends, SEO best practices, and content performance analytics and uses that knowledge to write effective digital marketing copy.
- Distills complex veterinary and animal welfare information into clear, concise, and accurate communications.
- Develops strong, collaborative relationships within the marketing department and across other cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Creative Director, and Senior Manager of Communications to conceive, develop, and produce work that engages and inspires animal lovers while helping define the SF SPCA brand.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to research audiences to best understand their needs, pain points and motivations - craft compelling content to meet both brand and audience needs.
- Optimizes copy for SEO and other performance metrics to enhance visibility, engagement, and reach.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Requirements
Requirements - 5 years of experience as a Copywriter within an agency and/or in-house team.
- A portfolio with both creative and editorial work for which you were primarily responsible is required.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and catching mistakes.
- Working knowledge of content strategy and how it informs brand messaging.
- Demonstrated ability to write concise, compelling marketing copy across channels and adjust tone and voice for different audiences.
- Strong time management skills with ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, communicate effectively with team members and meet short- and long-term deadlines.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
Salary & Benefits The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $77,000-$85,000.
