On July 5, 2023, strongwoman Lucy Underdown shared an eye-opening update on her strongwoman training progress. In an Instagram clip, athlete A 280-kilogram (617.3-pound) deadlift for four reps. According to the title of his post, this lift was A new quadruple personal record (PR) For Underdown. The athlete wore a lifting belt and used lift straps to assist with the massive deadlift. In her socks, she also completed the pull-up from a traditional stance with a traditional grip.
What can make an underdown’s performance even more impressive is how well the athlete lowered their mindset beforehand. Underdown wrote that having two bumper plates (four total) on her loaded barbell was not the deadlift set-up she was used to. Plus, there were no underdown training collars, meaning her weight wouldn’t be stable even if she worked to full lockout. In addition, the strong woman is clearly “under the weather,” casting doubts about what she wants to come close to the new PR.
Despite all these adversities, it may be a testament to Underdown’s unique strength that she somehow managed to overcome and finish the quadruple set.
It’s no surprise that Underdown marks this four-rep PR. At the time of publication of this article, athlete 2023 Arnold holds the strongwoman deadlift world record of 300 kilograms (662 pounds) from the UK Pro Strongwoman Competition. Kratos also holds the bar deadlift world record of 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds), which she set as the UK’s Strongest Woman 2023. The Kratos Bar is characterized by its extended 10-foot length, creating extra “flex” for athletes when pulling their weight off the ground.
Underdown has already laid out its upcoming competitive schedule. She will participate in the upcoming 2023 Europe’s Strongest Woman, 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman and 2023 England’s Strongest Woman competitions. To date, the athlete, who finished as runner-up at the 2023 UKSW, is still seeking her first professional strongwoman win. Nevertheless, based on her precedent, she is likely to shine.
Because regardless of any obstacles presented, Underdown continues to distinguish himself as deadlift royalty.
