The two strongmen did not leave London empty-handed.
American strongman Evan Singleton wasn’t the only big winner at the 2023 Giants Live Strongman Classic (GLSC).
Australian athlete Eddie Williams competes in London, England on July 8, 2023. Nicole Stone Cary broke the world record with a distance of 31.66 metres. The famous stones weigh 114 kilograms (251.3 pounds) and 138 kilograms (304.2 pounds) respectively. Meanwhile, another American competitor, Trey Mitchell, Set a new Viking press world record by completing 18 repetitions By the end of the competition on the nominal overhead apparatus weighing 150 kilograms (330.6 pounds), Mitchell and Williams placed fourth and fifth overall.
The Nicole Stone Carry 2023 GLSC will be its first event, meaning Williams effectively set the tone for the competition with her world record. The athlete notably shattered the previous world record holder Kevin Fares’ distance by seven metres. Notably, the Phares were also competing in the competition. Fares set the previous Nicole Stone carry mark with a carry of 24.61 meters at the 2022 Giants Live World Tour Finals.
Williams, Fairs, Singleton and Mitchell Hooper each eclipsed the previous record, but Williams comfortably marked the distance.
As the Castle Stones (or Atlas Stones) are usually the closest of strongman events, Viking Press 2023 will serve as the pinnacle final event of the GLSC. Mitchell battles with his world record. 2023 Giants Live Britain’s Strongest Man (GLBSM) surpassed Paul Smith’s record of 18 reps, who locked out 13 reps. Once again, several strongmen in the 2023 GLSC surpassed the previous Viking Press record, but Mitchell stood tall in a display of overhead pressing endurance.
Mitchell is likely to continue by returning to his training for the 2023 Shaw Classic (SC) in August. The athlete is the two-time defending champion and could be the challenger to prevent legend Brian Shaw from winning his last professional strongman competition. On the flip side, Williams is a former two-time Australia’s Strongest Man (ASM) champion (2017-2018) and has been a man to watch since 2019, marking his first top-five international finish.
