Besides starring in hit TV shows and multiple blockbuster film franchises, Chris Pratt is known for his faith.
Like most Christians, he sometimes speaks very strongly and unequivocally about it.
For example, he said during the 2018 MTV TV and Movie Awards, “God is real. God loves you. God wants you well” and advises viewers to “learn to pray.” It’s easy, and it’s very good for your soul.
Other times, the “Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” star dials it back a bit.
That was the case when Pratt appeared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” this week.
His appearance on the daytime talk show gave him the opportunity to not only talk about his new movie, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” but also to share a little about the role God plays in his life.
Pratt was half-joking about playing matchmaker for his wife’s mother, Maria Shriver, Barrymore.
Barrymore wistfully spoke of her desire to “just hang out and be happy” with someone. “I don’t want any drama,” she said.
That opened the door for Pratt to explain what God had done for him in that department.
“I met Catherine — now that’s five, maybe six years ago — and God has a fast-forward button, you know?
“When it’s right, boom! You hit, you fall in love, you get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters. … It’s really great.
However, she said, “There was a moment in my life when I felt really struggling and really broken.”
“It was like, for me, coming on my own journey … finding more power and leaning on it and saying, ‘Please save me.’ And then feeling saved.
“And then shortly after, meeting…the woman of my dreams.”
Pratt told Barrymore that she might have a similar experience.
“It’s all about time,” he told her. “There is a perfect plan for you. And I think you just have to have faith. The minute you have faith, it will work out.”
Members of the studio audience indicated their agreement with applause.
Pratt went on to explain how he met his wife at church.
Sitting in the front row, “Oh, who’s that?” While thinking that he recognized her.
“I kind of sneaked a few glances and I was like… ‘I’m broken; help me. But who is it?”” he laughed.
The two spoke about Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt’s latest book, “The Gift of Forgiveness,” which chronicles the stories of multiple people “and their own journeys with forgiveness.”
The actor joked that whenever he does something that upsets his wife, it gives him an out.
“When I screw up, I say, ‘Hey, remember your book? Remember, forgiveness is a gift, honey. So you should probably forgive me, right?’
