Elgarny is at a stage in his career where he can shine alongside modern stars and legends of yesteryear.
Kamal Elgargni is one of the main contenders at the 2023 Arnold Classic (AC). Nick Walker and Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elsbiay try to topple Elgarny Men’s Open Mountaineers in Columbus, OH, competition. However, there is still a full competitive season to run in 2023, when the dust settles in AC for this 212 third-place finisher at the 2022 Mr. Olympia. Elgarny is already thinking ahead.
On February 28, 2023, Elgargni was the guest Muscle growth Podcast with Ron Harris. The conversation discussed the former 212 Olympia champion (2019) and his bodybuilding ambitions for 2023. In the process, Elgargni revealed He is not ruling out the upcoming 2023 Masters Olympia later this summer. The competition is scheduled for August 26-27, 2023 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. With the competition returning for the first time in 11 years, this will be Elgargny’s first appearance.
At 51 years of age, Elgargny is eligible for the Men’s Open and 212 categories at the 2023 Masters Olympia. (Note: Athletes must be at least 45 to compete under both classifications). At the time of this writing, Elgargni maintains that he competes in the Men’s Open to stay relatively consistent with his training and nutrition.
What’s more, Elgargni was clear about why he’s considering competing at the Masters Olympia: he expects the prize money to attract. (Note: Show organizers have revealed the total prize purse is $229,000.)
“You never know what’s going to happen down the road but, yeah, it’s a great title [the 2023 Masters Olympia]”Elgagrny said. “We don’t hear much about it at this point. We don’t know what the prize amount is. I hope they do the good that makes people [want to compete]. At the end of the day, it’s a business. This is work. If you are spending more than you are getting it would be foolish. It’s a great title, but it still needs to be a decent prize amount.
Looking ahead this year, Elgarny is the 2023 Mr. Denying participation in Men’s Open at Olympia Because of his perception that judges favor size, he sticks to the 212 pursuit in major competition. Then, after wrapping up his 2023 AC appearance, the Tampa Bay, FL, resident plans to appear at the next Tampa Pro and potentially set his sights on the Masters Olympia.
Across the board, the athlete’s rationale was simple:
“I love doing Tampa [Pro] Again because I live in Tampa [Bay]”Elgarny said. “I’d love to do it and maybe win it. To do Olympia [Men’s] Open, no. No no no. I’m not thinking about the Olympia Open because the judges aren’t going to judge small, young guys even if they call me at 212. Later, they go to judge the collective demons. If they change the way they judge, you can give it a try but I don’t think so. This time, I do Arnold [Classic], perhaps the Tampa Pro at the Men’s Open, and then the Masters Olympia. That’s it. If all goes well, I’ve done what I need to do.
It’s been a while since Elgargni stood on top of any Olympia podium. On the fruitful occasion of 2023, the superstar will be seen standing on two iterations of the stage.
