The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that the lies told by Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia about the work of the National Identity Authority (NIA) under the NDC government have been exposed again.
A tweet shared by Sammy Gambhi on Sunday with the caption “Bawumia liar exposed again badly” had an audio-visual of the Vice President saying that NIA’s registration exercise has been abandoned by NDC governments for eight years.
“The Ghana Card scheme was initiated by President Kufuor but practically abandoned for eight years,” Bawumia can be heard saying.
Part of the audio-visual showed the Chief Executive Office of the NIA, Prof. Ken Attafua, who said that as of February 2017, over four million Ghanaians had been registered by the NIA.
“RT Honorable Speaker, as of February 2017 NIA has registered 4,554,528 Ghanaians. It has printed the card of 2,718,425 Ghanaians,” Prof Attafua was seen saying on the floor of Parliament.
