A new Democrat-authored bill moving through California’s legislature would eventually ban the sale of all tobacco products.
However, the bill does not affect marijuana.
This is typical of Democrats. They claim to be selective but it is a lie. They don’t want people to make their own choices. They have already banned menthol cigarettes in some places.
The Washington Times reports:
The California bill would eventually ban all tobacco sales
Some California lawmakers want to eventually ban all tobacco sales in the nation’s most populous state, filing legislation to make it illegal to sell cigarettes and other products to anyone born after Jan. 1, 2007.
If signed into law, 2,073 people who want to buy cigarettes will have to show ID to prove they are at least 67 years old.
“We can make sure California’s next generation of children doesn’t become addicted to smoking,” said Assemblyman Damon Connolly, a Democrat from San Rafael and author of the bill.
The proposal is likely to face strong opposition from the tobacco industry, which fights to maintain access to its largest US market. If the ban is legal, the industry can sue to block it. It can challenge the ban at the ballot box, asking voters not to let it go into effect.
“(The ban) will affect a lot of jobs and it will affect the entire economy of California,” said Charles Janizian, president of the California Association of Retail Tobacconists.
The bill does not penalize people for using or possessing tobacco products. Instead, it penalizes retailers for selling. Connolly said he is open to amendments that could create an exemption for religious and cultural uses. But he said the ban would not affect marijuana, which is legal to smoke recreationally in California.
California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has been bragging that California is an independent state for the past month.
Gavin Newsom tries to rebrand California as a “freedom state” because you’re free to obey the endless totalitarian demands of woke commie madness or you’re free to leave.
Choose wisely.
