100 Percent Fed Up – Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz, now one of the top two remaining candidates for a vacant seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, has a record of being soft on crime.
Protasiewicz is running against former Justice Don Kelly, and the liberal justices currently hold the edge after winning 54% of the vote to conservatives’ 46% in the first round of the election.
The Wisconsin Republican Party launched a website detailing various instances in which Protasiewicz has given light sentences to violent offenders and sex offenders.
Her record includes the conviction of a man who raped a 15-year-old child, a mother who starved her special-needs child to death, and, more recently, a man who raped her family. The member was jailed for only 14 months.
Protasiewicz accepted his lighter sentence, saying she gave him “the minimum amount of time she thought appropriate.”

A liberal candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court gave a 14-month sentence to a man who raped his cousin because he “wasn’t a danger to the public.”
Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz, 60, who is running against conservative former Justice Daniel Kelly, oversaw the sentencing of Jovian Reese, 23, who was convicted in 2018 of sexually assaulting her cousin.
While Reese faces a maximum sentence of 10 years, Protasiewicz decided to give him just 14 months in prison with 50 hours of community service, 1130 WISN reports.
‘Mr. Reese, I’m giving you the minimum time I think is appropriate,’ she said during the sentencing. ‘It’s significantly less than I thought I was going to give you.’
According to the criminal complaint filed against Reese, the then 18-year-old called his cousin to his home on Dec. 9, 2017, and raped her after she slept.
