Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that key players Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus are in good shape ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
Mikel Arteta was forced to do without Thomas’ party for the last two games against Man City and Aston Villa due to a muscle injury last week.
In the case of Gabriel Jesus, the Brazilian has not played for Arsenal since the Premier League resumed following the World Cup in Qatar, where he suffered a knee injury while in action for Brazil.
Eddie Nketiah has stepped up in Jesus’ absence as Arsenal are unable to add another striker in the January window.
Although Jorginho’s winter acquisition filled the void left by the party’s absence, the Ghanaian midfielder’s return will be a welcome boost for Arteta as Arsenal prepare for a tough test against Leicester this weekend.
Arteta provides injury update
Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Arteta provided an update on the fitness of both Party and Jesus. He said:
“Not much has changed [regarding injuries in the squad]. βQuestion Mark over Thomas [Partey], he is not highly trained but he seems to be available. Let’s see how he goes today, we’ve missed him in the last few games and hopefully he’ll bounce back.
“As for Gabriel Jesus, he is progressing well,” Arteta said. “Doing more and more on the field, the knee doesn’t respond – so it’s positive. We want him back as soon as possible but respect the time from the doctor.”
Jesus’ return boosts Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions and gives Mikel Arteta the chance to rotate his forward line during a busy schedule.
