Rep. Byron Donalds fired back after MSNBC host Joy Reid claimed her nomination for House Speaker was little more than a “diversity statement” by Republicans.
Donald, a congressman from Florida, was nominated multiple times for the role, receiving 20 votes and momentarily blocking Kevin McCarthy’s ascension to the speakership.
The Reid nomination is a desperate attempt by the GOP to respond to Hakeem Jeffries’ own nomination, and Democrats have a large minority of members in their caucuses.
“Don’t you believe the idea is to make a diversity statement by nominating yourself?” She asked Donalds.
The Donalds immediately pushed back, insisting that race was never a factor in the decision-making process.
“That was not an idea because I was in the room when the people who chose to nominate me made the decision,” he replied.

Joy Reid repeatedly belittled Byron Donald’s nomination by referring to him as essentially a token Republican.
“Any black person will do,” he said during an analysis of the speaker’s fight last week. “Especially one who’s very nice, big in stature and gets along with the show.”
Representative Chip Roy of Texas initially nominated Donald for speaker, giving a plethora of reasons why he was qualified for the job.
“Byron was a dear friend, a solid conservative, but most importantly, a family man who loved his wife Erica and his three children dearly,” Roy said.
“He has a proven record as a businessman, as a public servant in the Florida Legislature and now as a member of the United States Congress.”

Donald went on to publicly slam why he nominated Reed in the first place.
“The reality is that a lot of members believe in my leadership ability. They do,” he said. “Should I be disdainful of my youth because I served a term when members know that I have the ability to engage other members?”

Reid repeatedly belittles black Republicans
Hearing Joy Reid disparage a black man whose politics don’t align with hers is clearly ignorant. It’s fun to do so knowing she’s little more than a “variety” hire for MSNBC.
Doing so and then smoking on an intellectual level is truly something to behold.
Reed failed in her attempt to call Donald’s previous accusation “less black than other people” and called it “unfair.”

Reid later lost a critical race theory debate, accusing Donald’s students of not wanting to “learn about the racial history of this country” and falsely claiming it was not being taught in schools.

Reid has consistently vilified black Republicans on the same network throughout his disgraced career consider Hiring someone with absolutely no knowledge.
He repeatedly played clips of Herschel Walker suggesting he wasn’t smart and celebrated Raphael Warnock’s reelection as historic because voters rejected the GOP nominee and elected a black man. A real black man, apparently.
Reid has attacked Senator Tim Scott as a “token” of the Republican Party and recently suggested he is little more than a prop.
“You’ve got to love Tim Scott standing there to provide a patina of variety on those round words, that basket full of words,” Reed said.

He quotes Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas — a more accomplished African-American than Reed could ever hope to be — “Uncle Clarence,” an apparent reference to Uncle Tom’s racial slur.
