A new report reveals that students in the nation’s largest school districts are encouraged to change their names and pronouns without parents’ knowledge, even as the same schools require parental approval for over-the-counter medicine.
A report released by The Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies (DFI), found “Eight of the nation’s 20 largest school districts allow students to use names and pronouns in school associated with their gender identity without parental knowledge and consent,” the DFI said.
“Yet these same districts, including the New York City Department of Education, Los Angeles Unified School District, and Chicago Public Schools, require parental permission to dispense over-the-counter medications to students at school,” DFI added.
The report comes a day after news broke that St. Paul Public Schools is “clearly instructing teachers to use students’ preferred names and pronouns with or without parental consent.” According to to WZTV Nashville.
While schools are following parents’ wishes about medication, the same logic is not being applied to the use of pronouns, the study said, defying “the social and cultural consensus that parents decide what is best for their children.”
“School districts across the country are failing to respect parents’ rights to make decisions for their minor children,” said Bob Eitel, co-founder and president of DFI.
