Anti-communist activist Xi Van Fleet gave New York Times racial injustice reporter Nicole Hanna-Jones a lesson in “the current voc revolution aimed at undoing America” during a recent Twitter exchange.
Van Fleet took exception to the 1619 Project founder’s tweet attacking “American exceptionalism,” and a heated debate ensued.
I appreciate everyone who participated in yesterday’s debate about American exceptionalism, natural rights, slavery, and the Plan of 1619. The author should be challenged by us because the mainstream media is no longer doing its job. @ConceptualJames https://t.co/t9SDv2wbPj

Nicole Hanna-Jones and the 1619 Project
If you’re not familiar with Nicole Hanna-Jones, she won a Pulitzer for the 1619 Project, which “aims to reshape the country’s history by placing the effects of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the center of the United States’ national narrative.”
The New York Times project explores the legacy of Black Americans, beginning with the African slaves who landed in Virginia in 1619. Whether they were America’s first African slaves is disputed but President Barack Obama has cemented them in history. Smithsonian Magazine also called ‘The Misguided Focus on 1619 as the Beginning of Slavery in the US’. Damage of American History’.
Notably, Hanna-Jones’s journalism project bears a similar name to Calvin Pearson’s local history effort, Project 1619.
In her tweet that caught Van Fleet’s attention, Hannah-Jones lamented that black history is under attack because “our very presence on this earth is a huge rebuke to the narrative of American exceptionalism.”

“You and I, an immigrant from China 30 years ago with 200 borrowed dollars in my pocket, are proof of American exceptionalism,” counters Van Fleet.

Xi Van Fleet predicts the rise of the “social justice warrior.”
You may remember Van Fleet as the brave mother who survived Communist China under Mao Zedong, who warned a Virginia school board about the parallels between critical racial theory and social conditioning in schools during China’s Cultural Revolution of 1966-1976. dead
Van Fleet was only 6 years old when the revolution began pitting citizens, young and old, against each other, where critics were branded “unclean” and eventually silenced.
It’s ironic now that Hannah-Jones is sparring with a Chinese immigrant mother who recognized the dangers of turning America’s children into “social justice warriors.”
“You are now teaching, training our children to be social justice warriors and to hate our country and our history,” Van Fleet told the Loudoun County school board in 2021.

Xi Van Fleet Schools Nicole Hanna-Jones on American Exceptionalism
When asked to explain how Hannah-Jones herself and Van Fleet stand as living examples of American exceptionalism, the lesson begins.
First, Chinese immigrants contrast the enjoyment of natural rights in America compared to other countries. Although not slavery, the exercise of these rights suggests a doctrine unique to America.
Natural rights are unique to the American founding. In BC we were able to abolish slavery, Jim Crow, anti-Chinese laws…to allow individuals to succeed. Slavery, unique to America, still exists today. Ppl fighting for human rights in China are jailed by CCP.

Hannah Jones challenged Van Fleet on the idea of natural rights.
“Madam, the idea of natural rights may be unique, but 1/5 of the population were slaves in our establishment and had no “natural rights”. Besides, don’t you think protesters in the US face state violence and arrest? Do you think the US has no political prisoners?”, Hannah Jones denied.

At this point, Hannah-Jones can’t help but see that she’s out of her league from her social justice pedestal. So, she agrees with Van Fleet, “I’m afraid your vision of America doesn’t match reality.”
The Vocabulary Revolution
Then Van Fleet delivers a crushing blow.
Communism survivors are not academics who read about history or the experiences of others in books.
Van Fleet lived through China’s Cultural Revolution. She has lived an alternative life and has come to America for a better life. A way of life she now cherishes and staunchly defends.
“Mine is not a ‘vision’. Mine is a ‘lived experience’ under the slavery of Communism, freedom in America and the current Volk Revolution aimed at abolishing America,” declares Van Fleet.
Van Fleet then ends on a final pointed note to Hannah-Jones, “Thanks to the enduring principles and humanity of this country, black Americans are no longer slaves.”
Drop the mic.
Ironically, Hannah-Jones is currently directly benefiting from the “wake revolution.”
Streaming service Hulu is turning Hannah-Jones’ ‘The 1619 Project’ into a six-part docuseries. The Wrap recently wrote docuseries citing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ rejection of an AP African American Studies course.

Coleman Hughes spars with Nicole Hannah-Jones
Real-life Communism survivor Xie Van Fleet recently took issue with Nicole Hannah-Jones, not just an opposing viewpoint.
American writer and podcast host Coleman Hughes went a few rounds with Hannah-Jones earlier this month.
Hughes, who is of African American and Puerto Rican descent, has been a leading commentator on race and class and has testified before the House. against solutions. In 2019, Hughes testified that paying reparations would “further divide the country.”
The 27-year-old New Jersey native Hannah-Jones took issue with Thomas Sowell’s recent remarks.
“Besides being black, what exactly is Sowell’s expertise in slavery or history?” asks Hannah-Jones. His question was in response to a user’s suggestion to read Thomas Sowell’s essay “The Real History of Slavery”.
Hughes’s response credits Sowell with publishing “multiple tomes on the history of race, conquest, and slavery — filled with thousands of references.”

Hannah-Jones then asks for specific titles before inflicting personal insults.
“And have you noticed that I never tweet or mention you? Why do you think that might be?”
“Conquests and Cultures,” “Race and Culture,” “Black Rednecks and White Liberals” to “The Real History of Slavery,” “Ethnic America” to “Americans from Africa.”
Large parts of these books tell the history of slavery. Over a thousand references on the topic, easily. and you? https://t.co/nyKJ3Qut3X

The irony here is rich. First, she felt compelled to respond. Second, he’s trying to dress Hughes, a young black man who made the 2021 Forbes 30-30 Under 30 list, calling him “one of the most prolific and insightful commentators on race and class in the United States.”
Hughes was quick to point out that Hannah-Jones’ reaction says more about her than it does about him.

Human rights champion Kofi Annan once said, “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. “
If Nicole Hannah-Jones takes some knowledge from this exchange, we’ll consider that progress.
These simple and powerful words from Xi Van Fleet’s 2021 call with Fox News seem like a poignant final note. A reminder of the tying tie is still something many take for granted.
“I want Americans to know that it is their privilege to live in America, a great privilege,” Van Fleet said.
