A far-left member of the Fairfax County School Board with a history of controversial statements is now making headlines for calling the decisive turning point in WWII against the Japanese at the Battle of Iwo Jima “unfortunate” and “evil.” In the meeting.
Franklin D. during WWII. The controversy began when member Abrar Omesh began discussing Memorial Day, a day observed to remember Japanese-Americans who were sent to internment camps against their will by the Roosevelt administration. This day also occurs on the same day as the Battle of Iwo Jima.
“A few days ago was Japan’s Remembrance Day,” Omesh said. “Certainly something for us to reflect on… you know, the days, Iwo Jima unfortunately set the record straight for what happened and really, I hate to say, human evil is capable of.”
This shocking statement paints a distorted narrative of a historical event. The battle, fought from February 19 to March 26, 1945, turned the tide in the Pacific War and cost the United States nearly 7,000 lives trying to take the Imperial Japanese stronghold.

What made her say this?
Omesh gives absolutely no context as to why one should attempt to paint the courage and sacrifice of our service members as “evil” as this victory turned the tide, saved millions of lives and quickly ended the war. If that doesn’t happen. She did not acknowledge why anyone was upset by her remarks.

In a statement she issued after her remarks gained public attention, Omesh told the Washington Free Beacon that “there is no reason to distort what was said, and that reading too much into it reflects a bias forced on the listener.”
Omesh basically said that if you have a problem with what she said, you are the problem.
Wow, real talent we got here.

Oh, it doesn’t stop there
This is not the first time that Omesh has courted controversy for his out-of-pocket statements to incite his voters.
The Washington Free Beacon highlighted an earlier incident that upset Jewish parents in Fairfax County, one of whom was parent Gary Aiken, who spoke on “Fox and Friends First” last year, when Omesh called Israel an apartheid state.
“It caused a huge outcry among about 250,000 Jewish Americans in Northern Virginia,” Aiken said, “and it sparked outrage across all political lines and calls for her to apologize. She didn’t offer any. She doubled down on it.
It won’t stop either. In 2021, Omesh gave a politically charged speech to students at Justice High School where he mocked capitalism.
“Our world is overwhelmed with need. We struggle with extreme poverty alongside human greed, racism, individualism and extreme versions of capitalism, white supremacy, growing wealth gaps, disease, climate crisis, luxury and waste. And the list goes on. “
