A European Union official has threatened Elon Musk and Twitter over changes in the big tech giant’s free speech policy.
The EU is threatening Elon Musk and Twitter. They do not hold that the US has a constitutional right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
Fox News reported:
European politician Vera Jourova warned Elon Musk from the World Economic Forum in Davos that Twitter would face “sanctions” if it did not freeze certain forms of speech.

Djurova, the European Commission’s vice-president for values and transparency, told Euronews Next that Twitter could face fines for enabling free speech in violation of European Union rules. “The time for the Wild West is over,” he said.
“We have the Digital Services Act [DSA]. We have a code of practice as part of this legislation,” Zauroa said. “So, after Mr. Musk took Twitter with his ‘free speech absolutism’ – we are also defenders of free speech. But at the same time, we cannot accept illegal content online. So, our message was clear: We have rules to follow, otherwise there will be sanctions.” .
New European legislation could fine tech companies for allowing free speech to go unchecked.
“A suite of new legislation, including the DSA and the Digital Markets Act (DMA), was signed by the EU Parliament in October 2022 and is expected to enter into force later this year,” reports Euronews. “Under the new regulatory framework, which aims to protect the rights of online users and remove illegal content or misinformation, platforms can expect to be fined up to 6 percent of their annual revenue if they are found to be breaking the rules by EU regulators.”
