The 23-year-old was Kotoko’s top scorer at the time of his departure, although he was unable to repeat such heights in Algeria.
Despite struggling in North Africa and being farmed out on loan to Saudi Arabia’s Najran SC last year, Opoku maintains the move has been rewarding.
According to him, the monthly salary he takes home at USM Alger is enough to take care of him for a whole year.
“The Algerian league pays well because one month’s salary will take care of you for a whole year if you don’t spend on unnecessary things.” Opoku told Asempa FM, according to Ghanaweb.
However, he was quick to point out that, as in Ghana, salary delays are common in Algeria, although they do eventually get paid.
“We can sometimes go five months without paying our salaries but the difference is how well you pay doesn’t affect us.” he added.
Opoku has indicated his readiness to return to Kotoko, who won the Ghana Premier League last season.
