US Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Florida, is one of 20 House members withholding support from new Speaker Kevin McCarthy until the California Republican commits to bringing the seven bills to a vote, along with other concessions.
According to govtrack.us 2020, McCarthy is the second most politically left-wing member of the House Republicans, elected after 15 rounds of voting. Analysis.
McCarthy accepted a list of concessions made by conservative members of the Freedom Caucus, including Gaetz. He tweeted“This is what we’re fighting for.”

The seven bills include canceling funding for “certain balances available to the Internal Revenue Service,” including the administration’s plan to hire 87,000 IRS agents to expand tax audits of Americans.
Two bills relate to abortion: one bans taxpayer-funded abortions; Others amend Title 18 of the US Code to protect children who have had abortions or attempted abortions.
The two commit to border security measures: suspending illegal “alien alien entry” and requiring a national criminal background check system to notify US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and relevant state and local agencies when illegal alien nationals attempt to receive a firearm.
Another bill would prohibit the Secretary of Energy from sending petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China. Another would amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act to direct district attorneys’ and prosecutors’ offices to report to the US Attorney General’s office.

Among the concessions negotiated by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, are capping spending on fiscal year 2022 levels for the 2024 fiscal year, establishing a subcommittee to investigate the Justice Department, allowing more Freedom Caucus representatives on the rules committee, and returning. Limit of one member for proposal to vacate the office of Speaker existing before 2019.
Another concession includes the ability for any member of either party to offer amendments on the floor during appropriations, which Congress has not done since May 2016.

Roy said he urged members of Congress to give bills at least 72 hours to read them before voting instead of “ramping them through the rules committee and sending them to the floor,” where they are expected to pass them without knowing what’s in them. They are

McCarthy’s election marked the 15th time it took multiple votes to elect Speaker of the House. Very controversial He got 133 votes in two months.
Conservative House members tried to vote with Democrats and hold McCarthy accountable for going against conservative principles.
According to this Conservative ReviewMcCarthy earned an F grade for his voting record, which shows a history of spending taxpayer money over the past six years, raising the debt ceiling, voting against funding for border security measures, and voting for amnesty for illegal aliens.
The analysis evaluated key votes over the past six years, identifying 24 to give them a failing grade.
According to CR’s analysis, in 2022, McCarthy voted for the NDAA without requiring the Department of Defense to rescind its COVID-19 vaccine order; Voted to give an initial $40 billion in aid to Ukraine, with no conditions on how the money was spent or whether Ukraine had to pay it back. He voted to pass a $1.5 trillion omnibus bill to “fund Biden’s vaccine mandates” and to bail out the US Postal Service and “stick Medicare with the bill.”

In 2020, McCarthy called for $1.4 trillion in special interest spending called the “Covid Relief Bill;” to pass the NDAA without Section 230 reforms; and “‘Gag and Vote for It’ for Small-Business-Coronavirus Emergency Legislation.”
In 2019, McCarthy called a $555 billion “Christmas minibus spending spree;” Voted to pass. to suspend the debt ceiling, repeal budget caps and increase spending by $321 billion. to pass a $19 billion spending bill without funding border security and, according to Conservative Review, “to capitulate on the border wall; empower drug cartels and human traffickers; and “reduce accountability in Congress by mandating federal payroll spending.”
