The body of Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu has arrived in Ghana at the Kotoka International Airport.
Christian Atsu was one of the thousands who lost their lives in the catastrophic earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on February 6.
The remains were accompanied by his twin sister and elder brother and the Ghanaian ambassador to Turkey on a Turkish Airlines flight.
KIA was attended by Vice President Dr Mahmudu Bawumia, government officials, family, Ghana Football Association (GFA), and clergy.
In a short speech, Dr. Bawumia said: “It is a very sad day that we are here to receive the body of our brother, our son, our husband, our uncle”.
According to him “The tragedy that happened in Turkey about a week ago was devastating and we prayed with anxiety and fear that our brother Christian Astu would be found alive. Every day that passed we hoped against hope; we prayed and prayed but alas he was no more.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere condolences to the Twasam family. It is a painful loss, very painful…” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia indicated that the state is fully engaged with the family in giving Christian Atsu a befitting burial.
