Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating whether Trump legally paid vendors from his Save America PAC or used vendors to conceal payments to himself and others.
The New York Times reported:
Most recently his team has been hearing witnesses about Trump campaign research commissioned by an outside vendor shortly after the election intended to come up with evidence of election fraud. The existence of that research was previously reported by the Washington Post.
An investigation into the activities of Save America PAC, Mr Trump’s main fund-raising arm in Florida, was emerging before Mr Smith arrived in Washington by Christmas from The Hague.
A wide range of Trump sellers are subdivided. Investigators are raising questions about how the money was paid to other vendors, suggesting whether certain entities were used to disguise who was being paid or whether they were interested in the actual services for which the payments were rendered.
What the reporting seems to be looking into is who paid Trump and whether those payments were for legitimate services or were Trump and his family using vendors to take the money for themselves?
If Trump and his family are taking money raised under the guise of fighting election fraud and then paying themselves, that is a very serious allegation.
The behavior by Trump is not unprecedented. He did something similar with the Trump Inauguration Fund. The Trump Organization has been under investigation for years for potentially stealing from inaugural funds. Millions more dollars were never recovered because the money that was supposed to go to Trump’s inauguration went to Trump’s business.
Trump’s Big Lie fundraising has come under scrutiny by the 1/6 Committee and the special counsel has been ruling deeply about Trump’s fundraising and spending.
