I’m a sucker for a good secret. The international intrigue surrounding who sabotaged the Nord Stream pipeline last year has been a delicious mystery of late. Several countries are investigating the underwater conspiracy, but we still don’t know as the question goes – Whodunit?
However, a recent lengthy report by highly respected and undercover investigative journalist Seymour Hersh alleges that the lid on this thriller will be lifted and the unmasked criminal is making some waves. Without much shock, the proposed subversives are the masters of black ops, our own government.
I am not surprised by the color. Let’s look at the allegations and see if this report has any teeth.
In December 2021, Russia presented draft agreements to the US and NATO to address its security concerns about NATO expansion and weapons on its borders.

Set the scene
Pulitzer Prize winner and former New Yorker journalist, Seymour Hersh, wrote a 5,000-word article in his Substock detailing the allegation that the United States government was indeed behind the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline.
“Last June, Navy divers operating under the cover of a NATO exercise called BATOPS22 planted remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four pipelines,” Hersh said.

Oh, it’s trivial. From there he explains the thought process behind the use of Navy divers.
“The divers were only Marines and not members of America’s Special Operations Command, whose covert operations must be reported to Congress and communicated in advance to Senate and House leadership — the so-called Gang of Eight.”
In his report, he says deep-sea divers from the US Navy Diving and Salvage Center in Panama City, Florida were used. They alleged that the divers then planted C4 explosives triggered by the sonar buoy.
So, what does the White House say?
Between China’s spy balloon and Nord Stream news, I woke up in a cold sweat this morning wondering, “Is our military gay enough to win WWIII?”

Lies, all lies!
Asked for comment, White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said the allegations were “false and completely fictitious.”
Additionally, CIA spokeswoman Tammy Thorp said “This claim is completely and utterly false.”
In Hersh’s piece, he claims that the Norwegian government was also involved in the operation, to which the Norwegian Foreign Ministry also replied that those claims were false.
In a slightly more measured response, said Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee “If it is false, it is slander. If true, war. “
Indeed, if what Mr. Harsh alleges is true, it will mean war. Part of his article discusses not only why this operation occurred, but why it did had to occur.
If you recall, a year ago, President Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin “If Russia invades there will be no more Nord Stream 2. We will end it.”
After the invasion occurred, the administration began a nine-month plan, according to Hersh.
“At that time,” he says, “the problem was not whether to do the mission, but how to do it without any clear indication of who was responsible.”
It’s shaping up to be quite a page-turner, but is it fact or fiction?

The curse of anonymity
Suppose you are not familiar with Seymour Hersh. During that time, he became famous in journalism for breaking stories such as the massacre of 500 civilians in My Lai, Vietnam, and the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. He has recently become known for his penchant for relying on unnamed sources.
As he said, he did the same for this particular report based on information he got from an anonymous source. “Direct knowledge of operational planning.”
Previously highly regarded under the Nixon administration for his journalistic abilities covering stories such as the Watergate scandal, he was criticized as a ‘conspiracy theorist’ who questioned the Obama administration’s account of the death of Osama bin Laden. The Syrian government used chemical weapons during their civil war.
While ‘conspiracy theories’ were widely dismissed in the past, lately, it’s hard to accept that conspiracy theorists are on a roll.
After the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline and accusations that the United States was involved flew, the State Department said “The idea that the United States was in any way involved in the apparent sabotage of these pipelines is absurd. This is nothing more than an act of Russian disinformation and should be treated as such.
Hmmm… where have we heard this before…
Well, the Wikipedia monsters are at work today. People want to make sure that the first thing they see when they see “Seymour Hersh” is “conspiracy theorist.” pic.twitter.com/iC38KKijgs

We didn’t do it, but it’s good that we did
While we don’t yet know the results of the ongoing investigations, there are some interesting little tidbits if you pay enough attention.
For example, not long ago a European official admitted: there is no evidence that Russia was directly involved in sabotage.
What?! You mean to tell me that Russia didn’t screw up a pipeline that helps fuel its economy?!
Now that is not surprising in any way, shape or form. German investigators recently admitted they were open to theories that the bombing was carried out by a Western state intended to be blamed on Russia.
What western state has the ability and track record to pull off something like that? There are really only two ways when it comes to this mystery:
- We don’t know the truth
- We accept it and the mainstream media buries it
The government is better off on the second path. You might think they are already putting that machine in place.
Senate Inquiry Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland told Texas Senator Ted Cruz “Like you, I, and I think the administration is very happy, Nord Stream 2 is now, as you like to say, a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea.”
At a Senate hearing, top US diplomat Victoria Nuland celebrated the Nord Stream 2 pipeline bombing:

So we’re not going to say we did it, but we did it and we should be glad we did it because you’re welcome.
Should we be happy?
It depends on your worldview and what you believe our role should be on the international stage. Regardless, what our government, military and intelligence community do under the cover of darkness should be of interest to all Americans.
