In a memo posted to UncoverDC.com by former FBI Special Agent Kyle Serafin, the FBI warned against ‘radical conservative Catholic doctrine’.
Serafin was suspended indefinitely without pay last year after working in the FBI’s Richmond office for six years.
The FBI believes the ‘white supremacy’ found in the home of Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass, according to an internal memo:
The FBI’s Richmond division wants to protect Virginians from the threat of “white supremacy,” which it believes has found a home among Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass. Product of January 23, 2023, Ethnically or Racially Motivated Violent Extremists (RMVE) and their interests in “Radical-Orthodox Catholics” or RTCs. The document assesses with “high confidence” that the FBI can mitigate the threat posed by fundamentalist-conservative Catholics by recruiting sources within the Catholic Church.

The acronym, new to many in the domestic counterterrorism field, comes with a writer’s footnote explaining that RTCs are “typically characterized by rejection of the Second Vatican Council.” The writer makes the baseless leap that preferring the Catholic Mass in Latin instead of the vernacular and many orthodox views of other world religions “may be anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, LGBTQ, and white-obsessed.” Supremacy doctrine.” This writer draws an important distinction between “traditional Catholics,” who favor the traditional Latin Mass and pre-Vatican II teachings, and RTCs, who espouse “more militant doctrinal beliefs and violent rhetoric.”
A discerning reader may wonder why the writer believes such divisions exist and there is evidence of extremist and violent rhetoric within the Catholic Church. The analyst’s note does not provide specifics. When the FBI produces an intelligence product, it is important to note the sources analyzed. Typically, rigorous background checks eliminate bias and bias, so the product is consistent with federal law and can add value to the FBI’s overall operation. It should be noted that this document was reviewed and approved for release by FBI Richmond Chief Counsel, who is the office’s top attorney.

The piece concludes with the incredible leap that RMVEs or white supremacists threaten to use “RTC social media sites” (no examples) or “places of worship as facilitating platforms to promote violence”. This intelligence product points to the tolerance allowed within the FBI for left-leaning ideological actors who use academic-sounding rhetoric to compensate for a lack of personal experience. The weaponization of the FBI against conservative Americans can be seen in the way these documents are published and distributed. Poorly sourced and highly speculative intelligence products lead Americans to open investigations of poorly worded predictions, violating their God-given, First Amendment-protected civil liberties.
