On Monday, it was revealed that Atsu was trapped in the rubble after a devastating earthquake struck parts of Turkey.
Atsu, who currently plays for Turkey’s Hatayspor, was trapped under the rubble with the club’s sporting director, Tanner Sawut.
However, after hours of searching for the duo, the Ghanaian was reportedly found alive and receiving treatment in hospital on Tuesday morning.
Recent reports suggest the footballer’s whereabouts are yet to be accounted for, the Ghanaian ambassador to Turkey confirmed on Wednesday.
When we heard the news that “he was taken to Dartiol Hospital”, we especially went and looked, but it was not there. Hatayspor’s doctor Gurbe Kahvesi Hurityet told Turkey, as quoted by Joy Sports.
“At this point, we accept it [the sporting director] Tanner Savut and Christian Atsu were not found, unfortunate.
Meanwhile, a close friend of Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso and Atsu has stated that the footballer’s family should be given their privacy during this trying time.
“Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian was pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts,” Wakaso wrote in a statement shared on his Twitter page.
“As you can imagine, this is a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian.
“Official updates will be provided as more information comes to light. Please respect the privacy of the families during this time of distress and refrain from spreading unfounded rumors as this will only hinder Christian search efforts. Thank you for all your prayers and support.”
Meanwhile, reports from Turkey indicate that the earthquake disrupted telecommunications networks in Hatayspor, making it difficult to communicate by telephone.
