Early Monday morning, Atsu was found trapped under the rubble after a devastating earthquake hit Turkey.
Atsu, who is on the books of Turkish side Hatayspor, was trapped under the rubble along with the club’s sporting director, Taner Savut.
However, after hours of searching for the duo, the Ghanaian was reportedly found alive and receiving treatment in hospital on Tuesday morning.
That news was short-lived as another update indicated that the reports were false and the footballer was yet to be rescued.
Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey told Accra-based Asempa FM that all Ghanaians in Turkey except Atsu have been accounted for.
“I am happy and thankful to inform you that all Ghanaians have been accounted for, except for Christian Atsu. There are not many people in our area, and most of them were students. She said as quoted by Ghanaweb.
“Our hope and intention today is to move them to Ankara and Turkey because right now they are in a temporary structure which is very good. What we are doing now is trying to move them so that we can take care of them.”
Meanwhile, Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso and Atsu’s close friend have stated that the footballer’s family’s privacy should be respected during this endeavour.
