On Monday, it was revealed that Atsu was trapped in the rubble after a devastating earthquake struck parts of Turkey.
Atsu, who currently plays for Turkey’s Hatayspor, was trapped under the rubble with the club’s sporting director, Tanner Sawut.
However, after hours of searching for the duo, the Ghanaian was reportedly found alive and receiving treatment in hospital on Tuesday morning.
Recent reports suggest there may be a case of mistaken identity, with the footballer’s whereabouts still unaccounted for.
“Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian was pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts,” Wakaso wrote in a statement shared on his Twitter page.
“As you can imagine, this is a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian.
“Official updates will be provided as more information comes to light. Please respect the privacy of the families during this time of distress and refrain from spreading unfounded rumors as this will only hinder Christian search efforts. Thank you for all your prayers and support.”
Meanwhile, Turkey-based Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah says despite efforts to locate Atsu in various hospitals in the country, they are yet to locate him.
“We heard the club’s explanation about the vice-president Christian Atsu, who told all the media and the world media that he was rescued and in the hospital. But he gave another explanation that he didn’t see his eyes during the evening, so he heard that. There is no confirmation of this kind.” Mensah told Peace FM.
“And you know I am in Turkey and he is our friend, I check all the hospitals I gave his name, passport ID everything but still no news about him, we are pushing to get proper news but now the situation is not clear so we need official things to actually follow up, not confirmed Or denied it is unclear, but this is the situation now.
Meanwhile, reports from Turkey indicate that the earthquake disrupted telecommunications networks in Hatayspor, making it difficult to communicate by telephone.
