Joe Manchin always seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place on national issues, but as far as the people of West Virginia are concerned, he’s been fine with them since he first sent him to the Senate in 2010.
In 2024, it looks like everything could change, because right now, according to the latest polls, this moderate-Democrat is facing a potential GOP challenger.
In a study conducted Morning consultation Measuring the approval ratings of American governors, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, who is potentially starting a 2024 US Senate campaign any day now, has an approval rating of 64%. While 64% doesn’t sound stellar, it actually makes him the fifth most popular governor in-office in the country.
Manchin, however, currently sits at a 40% approval rating Washington Examiner.
If Justice enters the race, could this signal the end of Manchin’s time in Washington?

Although he hasn’t announced it yet, Jim Justice is almost certain to throw his hat in the running to represent the people of West Virginia in the Senate and send Manchin packing.
“I know people from West Virginia. “I really know he’s left in the dust and he really believes in me and believes in me,” Justice said in a recent interview with CBS News. As of this writing, he has promised to make a choice by the end of February.
Justice first entered the governor’s office in 2016 as a lifelong Democrat, but he surprised many of his constituents and drew national attention when he announced on stage with former President Donald Trump that he was leaving the Democrats to officially serve. A Republican. Although this was a controversial move, he won re-election as a Republican in 2020.
While Manchin is known for holding back on many of the Democrats’ borderline socialist policies, he has been receptive to Biden’s progressive agenda on issues like taxes and inflation, both key issues voters are focusing on as the economy continues to struggle.
Manchin was one of the swing votes that held up Biden’s inflation-reduction act, but later voted to pass the unpopular bill, after making some concessions.

A potential power shift
While Democrats may retain their Senate majority after the 2022 midterms, many now have to deliver on promises to manage inflation and return the economy to normal, especially as the Biden administration continues to water down the many challenges it faces. Running till 2024.
Losing a Senate seat in West Virginia would certainly cause federal problems for the party, but as of now there are no ultra-progressive candidates jumping into the primary for “moderate” Manchin, who, while still unpopular with mainstream Democrats, is still considered. A ‘safe’ bet in West Virginia.
If Manchin decides to take the Senate seat he currently sits in, Justice promises he will be a “reliably Republican” vote.
“I’m a staunch Republican and staunch in those values,” Justice said at a press conference. “I am a patriot. I really am. And I think our nation is headed in a direction that could be our downfall.
