Left-wing protests against the elected government in Israel
The left-wing Israeli opposition will step up its calls for violence and civil war as the new right-wing government tries to regain control of an out-of-control Supreme Court. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called them: Sour Losers.
Speaking at the Israeli Bar Association in Eilat on Wednesday, leftist lawyer David Hodak said he had “no choice but to use live fire” if anyone tried to force him to “live in a dictatorship,” the Jerusalem Post reported.
“If it becomes necessary to go to war, I will go to war. People are ready to take up arms… and I’m telling you: if it comes, I’ll do it. … Unfortunately there could be a civil war here,” exasperated Hodak, a 70-year-old army veteran.

In a telephone interview the next night with Channel 13’s current-affairs program “Haziner,” Hodak doubled down on his statements. “If they impose a dictatorship on me, I will fight,” he said. “What’s not clear?” When asked if he would do so with arms, he replied, “Even with arms if necessary.”
“I will do everything necessary to stop the dictatorship,” Hodak said. “I hope the protest is effective. If it is not, we will continue to engage in non-violent civil disobedience. If it is not successful, we will go to violent civil disobedience.
Former pilot Lt. Col. Zeev Raz, one of the organizers of the violent 2021 protests outside then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home, called for Netanyahu’s assassination: “If the Prime Minister assumes dictatorial power, he must die, along with his ministers and followers, plain and simple. So must we.” From Rodef (Jewish law authorizing the murder of those with intent to harm or kill others), reports Ruthie Blum in Arutz Sheva.
At a rally in Haifa on Saturday night, opposition leader Yair Lapid called to “fight in the streets”: “We will fight here in the streets. We will fight in the Knesset. We will fight in the courts. We will defend our country, because we are not ready to live in a non-democratic (country). Police questioned him on Sunday and had to walk back his crazy comments.
Speaking before the Knesset, opposition leader Yair Lapid called the judicial reform “not only the erasure of democracy, it is the painful destruction of our joint existence.”
The Israeli left cannot win elections, so they have used the leftist Supreme Court to block Netanyahu and the patriotic right at every step. Now that the new government wants to restore the balance of powers, they are getting restless.
Yair Lapid said, “For the first time in my life, I care about it (Israeli democracy) will not last. If the legislative process initiated by the government is completed, it will be irreversible. The fracture is very deep. Now more and more people are telling themselves that we are not the same people. Lapid said his country had abandoned him.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rightly pointed out that the hysterical leftists are the losers.
“Losing is not easy, but in a democracy there is no other way, you have to know how to accept the voter’s verdict and lose with dignity,” Netanyahu said.
“Many things can and should be discussed, but there is one thing that cannot be discussed, and that is calling for violence, treason and murder. This is crossing a red line. Democracy is the rule of the majority, not the rule of the gun,” Netanyahu said.
I expect the opposition leaders to act first and foremost to calm people’s passions – to stop the wild incitement raging against me, my family, government ministers and key members of the Knesset.
