Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the Ghanaian winger was having breathing problems after being rescued.
“Christian Atsu was found alive and has now been rescued from the wreckage and rushed to hospital after suffering injuries to his right leg and breathing difficulties. Stay strong, Chris! “ Romano wrote on Facebook.
On Monday, it was revealed that the 31-year-old winger was trapped in the rubble after the devastating earthquake that hit the country.
Atsu, who currently plays for Turkey’s Hatayspor, was trapped under the rubble with the club’s sporting director, Tanner Sawut.
However, after hours of searching for the two, it was confirmed that the Ghanaian was found alive on Tuesday morning.
Hatayspor manager Mustafa Özat told Turkish radio channel Radyo Gol that the club’s sporting director has not yet been found.
“Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries,” Ozat said as quoted by BBC Sport.
“Unfortunately, our sports director, Tanner Sawut, is still under the rubble. Hatay was deeply affected. We are approaching the end of our most dangerous hours.”
The football world has come together in wishing Atsu and all the victims of the earthquake well, with several celebrities sending their condolences.
